Hi David,
Another couple of questions: -
1. What is the best way to report data on a parent page that is stored in a child page.
If I use Metadata in the child page and Metadata-Report macro in the parent page - then my user has to edit the child page and go into the Wiki Markup code section and update the data he wants displayed on the parent page. The list of child page will keep on increasing so we do not have a static number of child pages to report from. For a user who is not well versed with Wiki this might be a little difficult. Can we make the user enter values in the view mode and have those values displayed in the parent page.
I cannot use the Scaffolding Macro and the Reporting Plug-in because my customer's Wiki uses Scaffolding 1.4 and my argument to upgrade to 2.3 will not be strong because Scaffolding 2.3 is still in beta and is not stable.
1. I need to build a Search functionality where the Search Input parameters will be selected from a drop down. Also this dropdown is to be dynamically populated. Is it possible to take the value selected from the drop-down and do a search on all child pages OR all pages inside a space. These values in the drop-down are the titles of a few pages which are also present as drop-downs in the child pages we are supposed to be searching. Say, for e.g., Child10 of Parent1 has text1 selected in the drop-down then can we display the child10 page from a search page when the user selects "text1" from the drop-down in the search page.

Hi Mohammed,
If you can't upgrade to Scaffolding 2.3 then the reporting plugin won't do you much good, as you say. However, other than some issues with Internet Explorer, and an intermittent problem with editing being disabled when other plugins are installed (SCAFF-125), I would say that 2.3 is actually more stable than the 1.4 branch. If you can use FireFox I'd recommend it. However, that's a decision for you to make yourself.
With regards to the search functionality, I can only point you towards the Advanced Search Plugin - there isn't any dynamic search feature available with either Scaffolding or Reporting.
Not sure if that helps, but it's the best I can do...

Hi David,
Thanks a ton for your response. I am sorry to bother you with my questions again and again but I cant find a better authority on the subject.
Can I search Metadata across pages without using the Advanced Search Plugin (unfortunately this plugin is also disabled on my client's system and getting it enabled is two months of red tape). Can I use the reporting plug-in to search for Metadata values (in all Pages in the same space) based on a user input in a text box. How can I achieve this.

Hi Mohammed,
You should be able to use reporting to search for metadata values by using the 'data:xxx' prefix (same as Scaffolding - although if you don't have Scaffolding 2.3 installed, that won't work). However you can't provide any user input search values at yet, unfortunately...

I hope my query is understandable.
Eagerly awaiting your response.
